A simple and economical surface solids control method to complement the downhole systems becomes necessary when we desire to reduce viscosity, yield point, gel strength, total solids, concentration of drilled solids, and low micron-size material. This aim will be achieved when we are able to partially reject the undesirable materials from the drilling fluid system.
Drilling Fluid Cleaner
Drilling fluid cleaners were equipment of solids control, also called mud cleaner or mud conditioner, etc.. Drilling fluid cleaner was evolved in the early 1970s to remove fine drilled solids from medium weighted mud without excessive loss of barite and fluid. It is also proved valuable tools in drilling loop closed systems and other applications (dispersed weighted). Drilling fluid cleaner use a combination of desander and/or desilter hydrocyclones and very fine mesh vibrating screens (120~400 mesh) to remove fine drilled solids while returning valuable mud additives and liquids back to the active mud system.
Dewatering Units And Equipment
The use of “dewatering units,” as a regular part of the drilling fluid treatment process on drilling rigs, continues to increase. A dewatering unit, the final phase of a solids control program, is designed to discard no free liquid. A solids control program in which a dewatering unit is used is referred to as a “closed-loop system” (CLS), “sump-less system,” or “chemically enhanced centrifugation” (CEC).
HYDROCYCLONE USE IN DRILLING
Hydrocyclones are very effective classification devices which, as a result of centrifugal forces in the spinning fluid, cause solids to be separated at the underflow. Hydrocyclone is core part of mud cleaner, desander and desilter.
